Job Overview
The Senior Associate, Finance and Accounting will work with the Head of Finance for Nigeria. This will be a role that will involve accounting, reporting as well as ensuring adherence to internal controls and statutory compliance. The Senior Associate, Finance and Accounting should also be someone with an interest in FP&A who is willing to learn how to work with growth models, analyse financial statements, forecast and budget.
Responsibilities
- Perform accounting functions including, but not limited to, verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions with a good understanding of GAAP and IFRS accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports with accompanying schedules, verify the accuracy of all statements and maintain the integrity of balance sheet balances and inflow/outflow systems.
- Maintain all general ledgers and related accounts with proper documentation and records of all transactions; review entries to the general ledger to ensure accuracy and compliance with the company’s and established accounting principles.
- Assist with setting up accounting books and procedures for new countries as the business expands.
- Ensure statutory reports such as CBN-related reports and other regulatory reports are prepared and filed on time.
- Coordinate annual external audits and prepare assigned schedules for the yearly & interim audits.
Qualifications
- A finance-related degree, with ICAN/ACCA as an added advantage.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably working in the financial service industry
- Experience working with accounting software (Netsuite, QuickBooks, Oracle)
- Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of tools like SQL and Power BI is an advantage.
- Self-motivated, results-focused and creative
- Methodical approach and problem-solving skills
- Able to work with tight deadlines and in a startup environment
