Job Overview
Reporting to the Servicing & Collections Manager, the Portfolio Recovery Associate will support the clean-up and recovery efforts of our at-risk loan portfolio. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including legal teams, auctioneers, debt recovery firms, and mediation bodies, to ensure the efficient resolution of non-performing loans and the recovery of outstanding debts
Responsibilities
- Manage and identify non-performing and high-risk accounts.
- Initiate and support debt recovery court processes by liaising with legal counsel.
- Prepare and manage all documentation for legal proceedings, including summons, affidavits, and court filings.
- Coordinate with external debt recovery agents to align with recovery strategies and targets.
- Liaise with auctioneers for asset valuation, repossession, and auction processes, ensuring legal compliance.
- Liaise with external legal counsel to ensure all legal processes (charging, court proceedings, auction approvals) are followed appropriately.
- Represent the bank in mediation and arbitration to negotiate settlements or repayment plans with defaulting clients.
- Engage with defaulting clients to explore amicable settlements before forced realization.
- Accurately document all recovery efforts, legal proceedings, and case outcomes.
- Generate regular reports detailing portfolio recovery status, including challenges, opportunities, and key milestones.
- Monitor the performance of external recovery partners and propose corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensure all recovery activities adhere to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices.
- Provide feedback to credit and risk teams, sharing insights from default cases to enhance credit policies and controls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or related field.
- 4 years of experience in credit recovery, legal support, or portfolio management (preferably in a microfinance or financial institution).
- In-depth understanding of recovery laws, court procedures, and asset disposal protocols
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple recovery cases concurrently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and recovery reporting tools.
